Newark,New Jersey, nicknamed "The Brick City", is the largest
city in New Jersey.
The city has a population
of 280,451. Located approximately five miles (8 km) west
of Manhattan, its location near the Atlantic Ocean on Newark
Bay has helped make its port facility,
Port Newark, the major container shipping port for New York Harbor.
It is the home of Newark Liberty International Airport which
was the first major airport to serve the New York metropolitan
area.
Hotels
The following four hotels are holding a block of around 30-40 rooms until April
15th or April 21st (differs by hotel), the rate quoted is a special rate that
will expire by that date.
All the hotels except the Comfort Inn will accept reservations that extend before
and after the meeting in case you want to do some sight seeing.
Given the cost of hotels in this area we suggest you make your reservations early.
The month of May is the start of good weather for visiting this area before the
heat of summer sets in. Hotel
special rates for this conference are only good until April 15th
or April 21st, depending on the particular hotel.

Located in the prestigious Gateway Center with a connected walkway to
Penn Station in Downtown Newark, the Hilton Newark Gateway provides amenities
tailored to
today’s traveler in a luxurious corporate hotel. The hotel does not provide
free parking, although there is a public parking lot adjacent to the hotel
(The overnight
parking rate at that lot is $20). The main benefit of this hotel is you walk
across the street to Newark Penn station and you can take a Path or AMTRAK
train to New York City or the Newark subway up to NJIT. It is about 3 blocks
walk to
the start of the restaurants in the Ironbound area.
Beautifully appointed guest rooms feature: Individual Climate Control, Color
TV with Showtime, Sony Play Station, Web TV, High Speed Internet Access, Two
Line Phones with Data Ports, Coffee Maker with complimentary coffee and tea.
The daily rate for the Internet is an added $9.95 effective 3PM until 12 noon.
The Hilton provides complimentary 24-hour shuttle service to and from Newark
International Airport.

The Hampton Inn is located in Harrison, NJ. It is approximately a 10-15 minute
cab ride or a 30 minute walk to New Jersey Institute of Technology.
The Hampton Inn provides free “On the House Breakfast,” free Shuttle
Transportation to Newark International Airport, Newark Penn Station,
Harrison Path Station and
Newark Downtown Business District. From the business district it is about
a 10-15 minute walk to the campus. Free parking is provided on the hotel
grounds. There
is a Path Station in Harrison which the hotel shuttle can take you to if
you wish to go to New York City.
Rooms are equipped with free HBO, CNN ESPN and more. Free High Speed Wireless
Internet Access, as well as In-room Wire Connections, In-room Microwaves, Refrigerators,

The hotel is on the Passaic River and just across the bridge from Newark. There
is an excellent Portuguese restaurant (The Spanish Tavern) two short blocks away
and a small china town with some excellent and authentic type Chinese restaurants

Hotel is just minutes from Newark International Airport. Complimentary shuttle
provides hourly Service to and from Newark Airport, NJ Transit, Penn Station,

Airports and Local Travel Options

Airports:
Newark
Liberty International (EWR) is the
closest and most convenient airport to the conference site. The New
York
airports
servicing the
Newark
area
are John F. Kennedy
International (JFK)
and La
Guardia (LGA).
The conference hotels -- Gateway Hilton,
Hampton Inn, Robert Treat, and Newark Comfort Suites-- all provide
free airport shuttle service. Contact them for details. If you prefer,
the taxi
fare to NJIT from Newark Airport is approximately $13.
AMTRAK east coast trains stop in Newark Penn Station and reach Boston and Washington
D.C. with stops at most major east coast cities between the two end points.
For train travelers, a taxi fare from Newark Penn Station to NJIT is approximately
$6.00. The Newark
subway fare
from Penn Station Newark to NJIT's subway stop is 60 cents.

State and national recognition has been accorded Newark’s majestic Cathedral
church, which was designated an historic landmark by the New Jersey Historical
Society In December 1974. Two years later, on December 22, 1976, national

Gardens and the Outdoors
May is a wonderful month in this area for people who like plants

do.
